IMPORTANT CONTEXT

Education. Not advice.

Investing involves risk, including loss of capital. A compelling historical chart is not a recommendation.

Educational content only

Compounding Theory provides general educational media. Nothing on this site is individualized investment, financial, tax, or legal advice, a solicitation, or an offer to buy or sell a security. We do not assess your circumstances or act as your regulated financial adviser. Seek qualified professional advice when appropriate.

Past results are not a forecast

Historical returns and hypothetical backtests do not predict future results. Outcomes depend on methodology, timing, data quality, and assumptions. Fees, taxes, trading costs, inflation, dividends, and reinvestment can materially change a result.

Illustrations are not factual returns

The homepage’s compound and linear paths and all card charts are illustrative visual artwork. They are not investment performance or factual market series. No factual investment-return endpoints are reported on this website.

Private equity proxy limitation

The first experiment uses an illustrative private equity proxy derived by smoothing and lagging S&P returns. It is not an actual private equity index or actual private equity investment performance. Smoothing can conceal volatility; the proxy does not reproduce private equity’s cash flows, illiquidity, leverage, fees, or valuation practices.

Independent judgment

Models are simplifications. Sources can contain errors, and historical comparisons can be influenced by hindsight, survivorship, selection bias, and missing data. Do not make investment decisions solely on the basis of this content.

Read the methodology and data standards.
